The power of our abstract thinking brought about the symbolic representations and our languages and also gave rise to a fantastic imagination, fueled by all of these intellectual achievements.
Human abstract ideas took us to the first high-level technical proficiency, to the basic mathematical calculations; to the first written words, to philosophical perceptions and to the arts and literature.
Long before this, some arts and techniques were quite widespread among prehistoric human groups. Paintings, sculptures, and objects were made, the products of the expansion of an abstract unbound imagination.
Locally made handicrafts were swapped for foreign objects, giving rise to the first tradeoffs, not just for basic necessities but very importantly, there was a great interest in the exchange of purely decorative (and apparently useless) objects. This fact was instrumental in establishing good contacts with other groups; forming relations from whom they received information about the outside world and the neighboring populations.
Fiction and fancy are very important players in the development of Science since the innovative flashes of good ideas that can lead to good scientific theories are a result of a non-rational creativity that, despite being brilliant, is entirely due to the power of the free imagination.
